Payment Security

Our payment gateway uses 128 bit SSL, the strongest commercially available level of encryption. All your private data will be encrypted at all times whilst in transit over the Internet. You should see a solid padlock in your browser status bar which indicates that the encryption is taking place.

We do not view or store any credit card information on our servers at an time. The information you provide is shared directly and securely with HSBC Merchant Services who authorise the payment.

3D Secure

3D Secure stands for Three Domain Secure – the payment industry’s internet authentication standard which has been developed by the major card schemes. Visa has called their version of the scheme ‘Verified by Visa’ and MasterCard have called their equivalent initiative ‘MasterCard SecureCode’. These are both collectively referred to as 3D Secure.

3D Secure authentication requires the cardholder to register their card to take advantage of this service. This is a one time process which takes place on the card issuer’s website and involves the cardholder answering several security questions to which only the card issuer and cardholder will know the answer. The cardholder selects a password and agrees on a secret phrase, which will be used by the card issuer during each online transaction.

3D Secure can be thought of as an online version of ‘Chip and Pin’ technology, whereby the cardholder has a personalised password registered with their card that is entered during the checkout process. 3D Secure is predicted to become the industry standard by the end of 2007 and all online consumers will soon become as familiar with this, as when they enter their ‘Pin’ number at a cash machine or till in a shop.

Deposits

If a customer wishes to place an order for an item/s which is currently out of stock at the time of placing the order, The Orchard requests that a 25% deposit is made by the customer via Debit/Credit card or Paypal, in order to 'reserve' the item. Once the deposit has been paid, the item will be called in to order, which may take up to 12 weeks, dependant on the item's availability. You will be given a verbal estimated in-stock date at the point of ordering.

The final balance payment of the order will be automatically deducted from the customer's original payment card at the point the order is ready for dispatch, via The Orchard's 128 bit SSL payment gateway and HSBC Merchant Banking. If you do not wish for the remaining balance to be debited from the original payment card please notify The Orchard verbally at the point of ordering, or in writing prior to the estimated in-stock date. The order will only be dispatched after the final balance has been paid. If the customer has opted to make payment via Paypal, a Paypal invoice will be sent to the customer via email. Once the Paypal payment has cleared (which can take up to 7 working days), the order will be readied for dispatch.

Please email sales@theorchardhomeandgifts.com if you would like any further information.
